Web 2.0
I was delighted to participate in this discovery process. I learned a lot about the new technologies. And as promised, there was play. It was fun. I need to go back and do more. Thanks for the opportunity to learn more about WEB 2.0.
Overdrive--Audiobooks
Yes, I was able to learn about Overdrive and successfully download an audiobook to my library account.
The excerpt from Fahrenheit 451 reminded me of Read Together Palm Beach County. I also listened to an excerpt from Hurricane Punch by Tim Dorsey. I discovered that all of the excerpts are 2 minutes long. In Overdrive, the
searching of titles was straight forward. There are lots to choose from. This was brand new to me and I was delighted to discover it.

Podcasts
Downloadable Audio files:
I found it more difficult to find exactly what you want in searching these sources for podcasts. The Library of Congress Podcasts included the 2008 National Book Festival in Washington D.C. It had authors speaking about their books. Most were long, so couldn't listen to them. Also, in Podcast Alley I saw the Kankakee Public library in Illinois and the Seattle Public Library in Washington. At the SPL, the teen librarian spoke about books and had staff do audio book reviews for the teens to listen. Clicking on titles brought you to the catalog where you find or reserve the book. And what about that Superpatron--the Friends of the Library!

Video Sharing Sites
I made it to week 9.
On YouTube I checked out a couple of salsa dance videos. There are many; among them are: Anyone Can Dance Salsa, and Addicted 2)Salsa. This morning there is a video on the PBCLS web site featuring the ribbon cutting ceremony at the Hagen Ranch Road Branch Library. See pictures of the magician's performance on Saturday, as well as a view of the Tuna de West Palm Beach. Yea for the new HRR Branch!

WEB 2.0 TOOLS--Week 8
I chose to explore "Im Cooked", the winner for the food category among the award winning tools. People can film and share recipes. I viewed how to cook Thai beer fried onion rings and a classic fondu recipe. The videos were good quality. You may choose a channel, which are categories of food. For example, seafood, holidays, vegetables, etc. The site also offers written recipes, friends, a page to mark your favorites and find others who share your tastes. There are tips for filming an sharing videos, too.
Zoho Writer--Week 8
Happy to learn that here is spellcheck again! Not sure I really understand how this works yet, there is so much to explore. Look at all the smiley faces available. I wondered where people found them.

PBCLSWiki
I managed to add my blog url to the wiki page. Not sure if my picture is ok.
Wiki's will take a bit more practice.

WIKI
Quick, fast...
I found the "Chicago Reader" a great site for sightseeing in Chicago. It includes events, culture, music, restaurants and so much more. All by starting at the SJCPL Subject Guide wiki.
The ALA 2008 Anaheim, CA wiki had everything conference related. I learned that California has the strictest laws on cell phone usage while driving a vehicle. In short, "Don't."
The LitWiki of Ohio Universary helped me find titles of what to read this summer.

Library 2.0
For me, the article "Into a new world of librarianship" told what a librarian might do in order make the library a social and emotionally engaging center for learning and experience. The librarian is still helping users find information, gather knowledgeand "create" content. New technologies may improve the ways the library meets user needs. The librarian reads outside the profession and watches/thinks how technoloty impacts users and services.
Mousing Around
Searching Technorati, with the library's web address, I found 77 posts. I was pleased to see several related to our very own Mousing Around tutorial for beginning users of computers. Staff discovered that this tutorial has been used around the world. Spanish, anyone?
A tag search for web 2.0 resulted in 32,602 hits.
There is a search tool out there for blogs!

Week 6: Folksonomies
Hello all, Check out the PBCLS account on Del.icio.us. My friends I saw you all there: the Canadian's NAFTA interest, as well as Chinese characters. Although I created my own Delicious account, I wonder if I will really be using it. I do see the research potential as evidenced by the many staff who added library webpages to the list of tags. The exercise UTube video was fun, too.

Play Week 5
This week was a lot of fun! Image generator can do so many different things. I created a puzzle from a favorite photo of mine; turbanized my photo; made a 150 year old photo from one I had taken in 2008; found my 10 celebrity face matchups; and discovered Big Huge Labs from Flickr. The URL address for Turbanizer is: www.turbanizer.com
Library Thing: It's amazing that so many people had cataloged three of my five books. However, I had one Norwegian cookbook that had only 33 other catalogers. The fifth book was so-so.
WebFeat: My hometown in Illinois had 30,000+ hits. And when living there the population was under 10,000 people. The town's claim to fame was being home to the Bettenhausen's. They are a car racing family and owned the Bettenhausen Dodge dealership. Still do. And a race car literally hangs in the front window of the showroom. There was Tony, Gary and more that became famous race car drivers in the 40's and 50's.

flickr technology
It is amazing the vast quantities of photos posted on Flickr. Somehow I found a Florida photo to post on my blog without even trying. The Fennec foxes were curious. The photographers other images are worth seeing, too. The 3rd party application I liked was the flickr toys, where one could make a poster, create a puzzle and all other types of cool things with your own photos. Trip planner was interesting, too.

Blogging in Libraries
Blogging may be used in public libraries as a way for staff to share their ideas and experiences with each other. Since we have many locations, it will probably be the most time efficient way for idea sharing. (Hey, there is no automatic spellcheck in blogging.)
7 1/2 Habits
Probably the most difficult part of achieving the 7 1/2 haabits of hightly successful lifelong learners will be to view problems as challenges. Recently I have started to view goals as challenges, so I may now view problems as a time to set goals as well.
